I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at Virginia Commonwealth University.
My interests lie at the intersection of the sociology of migration and medical sociology. Specifically, my scholarly agenda focuses on Mexican internal and international migration, the experiences of immigrants in United States, and health disparities. Across these areas of research, my overarching goals are (1) to understand the role of social, structural, and contextual factors in creating disparities between migrants and non-migrants, and (2) to identify individual and structural resources that can help reduce these disparities. My work is largely interdisciplinary and I have collaborated actively with researchers in the fields of anthropology, psychology, public health, and medicine. You can find links to my published work in the Research tab. All the header photographs were taken by me during trips to Mexico. The photo in this page shows the Biblioteca Palafoxiana, the first and oldest public library in the Americas, located in the city of Puebla. |
